The paper battle
So today was another bit of a flip-flop day on the ‘paper versus paper-free’ campaign. But I just received an amazing idea from a facebook friend on using chalkboards. Now I can’t afford to buy a bunch of chalkboards but what about just ‘chalk?’
We often chalk on the sidewalk outside our office and although one bylaw officer wasn’t too sure if that was ‘allowed’ it has created an amazing space of beauty that has elicited some great conversations and it does make people stop, slow down, and actually enjoy the space.
So I am thinking some kind of chalk campaign might just be a partial solution – I will give this some more thought.
Other ideas are to support the local Valley Voice – they are going to run an ‘election’ focused edition and for $35 while run a blurb on each candidate. I love that publication, so I certainly don’t mind supporting them and if I can have a space to say my views – that works for me.
So I’ve spread the work to others and hopefully the next edition will be filled with all candidates with all viewpoints.
And in the meantime, I’ve challenged some of my other running mates to consider forgoing the use of signs. Many are complaining of losing signs, having signs vandalized, and I can only imagine what people are spending on them. I’m definitely not going to purchase materials for signs and I think it would save a lot of money, hassle, visual pollution, time, and effort if we all just agreed – no signs period.
That will definitely be on my agenda in 3 years when we are all back here doing this again – what do you think?
